Social Electricity Platform

Increasing energy demands and rising costs increase the concerns about rational energy management. A core problem that hinders the awareness of European citizens about the implications of energy consumption is the absence of green ICT infrastructures. Existing green ICT platforms are rather incomplete, or not based on any pedagogical techniques. Our project plans to develop a social ICT platform that allows European citizens to be educated about energy, encouraging them to engage in communities related to energy-saving practices. An online learning platform will be developed on top of “Social Electricity”, which is a Facebook application that makes citizens aware of their energy consumption, by means of social comparisons with the consumption of their friends and neighbours. Users will learn and be educated on Social Electricity and on aspects of energy savings, by actually using our platform in their everyday life. The project aims to motivate people to acquire more environmental-friendly behaviours.
